there are lots of websites that help families find their new companions, of every type! I got my Aussie, 'Socks' from puppyfind.com and it was a match made in heaven! i have been studying animals (particularly dog breeds) and matching them with potential owners for a few years now and am trying to put more adoptable animals out there.

shelter of the day:  Only Hope Cat Rescue is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue of lost, abandoned, sick, abused, feral and stray cats and kittens in New York’s five boroughs and New Jersey. Their driving force is mutual love for animals. They work strictly through our foster homes. When they take cats in, they live in foster care until they find them permanent homes. Caring for these cats includes not just food and litter, but also medications, supplements, vet bills for spay/neuters, vaccinations, parasite infestations, and any other health conditions that may exist when they find the cats. Only Hope Cat Rescue, Inc. has taken in cats that needed mouth surgery, biopsies; cats that were paralyzed, that have cancer, diabetes, cystitis, and cats that need to take a pill every day for the rest of their lives. Meet “Chelsea” a pretty mix dog from Danbury, CT.

helsey gets nervous around new people and is easily startled by loud noises. Luckily for Chelsey our dedicated volunteers are committed to socializing her and getting her used to unfamiliar sights and sounds.

Are you a patient person and an experienced dog owner? Would you be willing to spend some time getting to know Chelsey and provide her with a quiet, adult only home? She would prefer to be the only dog too but does enjoy the company of cats. Please come by and ask to see her.

This beautiful Golden Retriever is 13 months old and comes from Chelyabinsky, Russia! (will ship worldwide) This gorgeous boy comes from pedigree and champion bloodlines & sired. He was also The young Champion of Russia. (great in show, great build and head) He has a wonderful personality and character. Would make a wonderful pet, and looking for a great home!

to breed,or not to breed?

i recently had a ‘hate’ comment on one of the ‘available puppies’ post,

this comment mentioned that i was supporting a backyard breeder. why? because it wasn’t a shelter, so the individual slandered me on their blog. i thought this was very funny.

i worked at a local animal shelter for years, i saw the dogs and cats come in, and a few from puppy mills. let me say this, when i put up a post from a website , that is not a puppy mill. i do my research on who the breeder is, where are they founded, are they registered with the AKC, how long have they been in the business and what do their past customers say about them? etc.

and let me say this as well, i also have an affiliation with a local dog breeder who runs a store in town. unlike most pet stores who do get puppies from puppy mills, this store gets puppies from surrounding breeders. now, there is NOTHING wrong with getting a puppy from a breeder. they are most of the time, the most pedigree, healthy puppies you can get.

so to see someone ignorantly slandering me because i support puppies from breeders is funny to me. in fact,most higher up organizations, such as the american kennel club, suggest getting your puppy ONLY from a breeder. but i do support shelters too, because they need good homes and should have a second chance at happiness.

so please, do not be ignorant, do your own research! if you are looking to get a puppy, make sure he/she is healthy and comes from a good place. thank you for listening to my ramble :] things like this just get my blood boiling, don’t disrepute breeders if you do not understand them.
